Galatia, Trajan, Koinon of Galatia, struck at Ancyra, under legate / propraetor T. Pomponius Bassus (legatus Augusti pro praetore), struck ca. 98-117 AD.,
Æ24 (ø 23-24 mm / 10,55 g), brass, axes about medal alignment ↑↑ (ca. 20°), 
Obv.: AYT {NE}P TPAIANOΣ KAIΣAP ΣE ΓPEMA (sic) , laureate head of Trajan right.
Rev.: EΠI Π[OM(ΠΩNIOY?) BAΣΣOY(?) KO]INON ΓAΛATIA - Σ , Mên standing half left, wearing Phrygian cap, crescent at shoulders, holding phiale/patera in his outstretched right hand.

In B.C. 64 Galatia was divided by Pompey among the principal tetrarchs of the country, notably two who struck coins, Deiotarus I, ruler of the Tolistobogii, and Brogitarus, ruler of the Trocmi. On the death of king Amyntas in B.C. 25 Galatia with other districts was formed into the Roman province ‘Galatia’ under the government of a legatus Augusti pro praetore. For the Koinon of Galatia imperial bronze coins had been struck at Ancyra from Nero to Trajan.
