Petra in Arabia Petrae, 70-106 AD., Nabataean Kingdom, Rabbel II, Æ 16, BMC 3.
Petra mint in Arabia Petrae, Nabataean Kingdom, Rabbel II, with queen Gamilath, 70-106 AD.,
Æ 16 (13-16 mm / 1,45 g), bronze, axes irregular alignment ↑↗ (ca. 50°),
Obv.: jugate laureate busts of Rabbel II and Gamilath, Rabbel II has long hair and ornament on the top of his head.
Rev.: "RB'L / GMLT" , two crossed cornucopias, Aramaic legend "Rabbel / Gamilath" in two lines between the horns.
Meshorer Nabataean 163 ; SNG ANS 1446-51 ; SGICV 5706 ; Sear GIC 5706 ; BMC 28. (Arabia), 13, 3-7 ; cf. SNG Fitzwilliam 6125 .

The capital of Nabataea was Petra. Aramaic is read from right to left and vowels are unwritten. The letters of the reverse legend read, RB'L / GMLT. Rabbel II was known as "He who gives life and salvation to his people," a title perhaps earned subjugating Arab tribes. The Nabataean Kingdom ended when Trajan created Provincia Arabia in 106 AD. Gamilath was called Rabbel's sister and wife; however, "Sister" may have been an honorary title.
