Messene in Messenia, magistrate Damion, ca. 49-30 BC., countermarked ca. 29-11 BC.,
Hemiobol / Hexachalkon / Æ 20 (20-21 mm / 4,90 g), bronze, axes irregular alignment ↑→ (ca. 90°, compared to original obverse orientation),
Obv.: diademed head of Demeter right, countermarked on the obverse with the head of Octavian / Augustus with thunderbolt-termination to right, within an oval indent.
Rev.: ΔAMIΩ[N / {ME} ] , Zeus Ithomatas standing right, hurling thunderbolt with his right hand and with an eagle perching right with spread wings on the back of his left wrist; magistrate´s name downward in field to left, ; {ME} -monogram to right above tripod.
