Tyra was a Milesian colony on the river Tyras (today river Dnister/Ukraina, russ. Dnjestr) - at the Northern Black Sea coast, about twenty miles from its mouth. The earliest autonomous coins seem to belong to the second or first century B.C. Coins were also struck at Tyra in the name of Lysimachus, and there are Imperial coins from Domitian to Julia Mamaea.
