Crawford 533/2, Marc Antony, mint moving with M. Antonius in Greece, Denarius, 38 BC.
Marcus Antonius, mint moving with M. Antonius in Greece (Athens?), ca. 38 BC.,
Denarius (18 mm / 3,63 g),
Obv.: III VIR R P C COS DESIG ITE[R ET TERT] , radiate head of Sol right.
Rev.: M A[NTONIVS] M F - M N AVGVR IMP TERT (MP and RT in monogram), Marcus Antonius, veiled and togate, standing to r. and holding lituus in r. hand.
Cr. 533/2 ; Syd. 1199 ; Bab. Antonia 80 ; Coh. 13 ; RSC 13a ; CRI 267 ; RCTV 1474 .
This variety is always described with Antony on the obverse, following the logic of the legend. Yet the concave fabric of this specimen clearly indicates the opposite, i.e., that Antony occupies the reverse and Sol the obverse.
