The liberty head was designed by Augustin Dupré (1748-1833) - Engraver-General at the Paris Mint from 1791 to Germinal, Year XI (March-April 1803). The small figure on the reverse field is the goddess Artemis drawing a bow and is Dupré's privy mark. The rooster is the privy mark of the mint director of the Paris Mint at the time - Charles-Pierre de l'Espine.
