268-269 AD., Claudius II. (Gothicus), Rome mint, Æ-Antoninianus, RIC 62.
Claudius II. (Gothicus), Rome mint, 10th officina, 1st issue,
Æ-Antoninianus (19-20 mm / 3.35 g), 268-269 AD.,
Obv.: IIIIIP C CLAVDIVS AVG , radiate, cuirassed bust right, viewed from front.
Rev.: LIBERA - AVG , Libertas standing left, holding pileus and scepter.
RIC 62 ; C 151 ; Nor. 684 ; Chalfont 655 .
LIBERT or LIBERA or LIBERIT ? - maybe a celator slip cause he was used to engrave the LIBERALITAS AVG reverse of the same issue and had a bad day. Or the engraver messed up and needed to recut the die over a botched T.
Only the Rome mint usually writes IIIIIP for IMP in obverse legends of Claudius II issues.
